Praise for An Introduction to Jain Philosophy

This [book] is a great achievement on the part of Dr. Jain, and an important contribution to the proliferation of this jewel amongst humanity’s aggregate wisdom.” — from the foreword by Rita Sherma

“Parveen Jain, as a seeker and writer, has presented Lord Mahavir’s philosophy to the core in his book, An Introduction to Jain Philosophy. It reflects Parveen Jain’s dedication to the revered guru, Ācārya Sushil Kumar, and his personal spiritual journey. This clear and thorough compilation on Jain philosophy maintains the essence of its doctrines. It is a laudable effort, which shall prove as a gift for generations. Our wishes and blessings for continued progress on his spiritual journey.” — Sadhvi Nidhi and Sadhvi Kripa, female monks belonging to the Jain Sharman Sangha of India

“Parveen Jain’s painstaking work in An Introduction to Jain Philosophy is not a direct translation of Jain Dharma [written by Ācārya Sushil Kumar in 1958]; it uses Jain Dharma as its base, supplemented with his understanding gained from the study of other writings and discourses of Ācārya Sushil Kumar. Yet for one seeking to find Jain Dharma in English, this book from Parveen Jain will be gift of immense value. An Introduction to Jain Philosophy retains the master’s non-sectarian, enlightened, and empowering outlook – something as much required now as it was sixty years ago.” — Jaipat Singh Jain, Honorary Trustee, Siddhachalam

An Introduction to Jain Philosophy by Parveen Jain encapsulates the essence of Jain practices and philosophy in a succinct and pragmatic way. It is truly a gift for a non-Jain to get a good grasp on the Jain teachings, what makes the philosophy so unique, and what distinguishes the Jains from the others. No conversion, just follow the principles and you are a Jain in spirit. Kudos to Parveen, especially being a layperson, for bringing out this scholarly compilation — a must for every young Jain, and all those who are seekers of the Jina. —Bawa Jain, President, Center for Responsible Leadership

As a person who got to know the Jains after my marriage, An Introduction to Jain Philosophy by Parveen Jain — a comprehensive work — has helped me systematically understand the profound wisdom behind the simple but elegant Jain way of life. This book is a great gift for anyone wishing to understand this ancient philosophy, and it inspires the transformation that is sorely needed in this increasingly conflict-ridden modern world. — Hana Totary, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida

An Introduction to Jain Philosophy by Parveen Jain explains various doctrines of Jain philosophy in very lucid way. It was an eye opener for me as I gained deeper understanding and contemporary interpretations of important tenets such as salvation, karma, tyaga, and dharma. The book reveals the relevance of Jain teachings to the modern world, and an understanding of our unified co-existence in and our relationship with the universe. It provides a relatively easy and systematic understanding of various doctrines; their rationalities, spiritual revelations and beliefs embedded in the Jain teachings. Jains are small in number but an influential immigrant community in all parts of the world. It is important, more than ever before, to effectively proliferate the Jain teachings as the world truly needs it now, and this book by Parveen Jain is a solid step in that direction. I endorse this scholarly work and believe it should be on every bookshelf.
